Armored cash truck hits pedestrians

An armored truck knocked down two pedestrians and ran into a wall in Hechuan on Feb 14, when the driver swerved to avoid hitting a dog. The truck was badly damaged in the incident, which occurred at about 8:20 am, but the pedestrians were not seriously wounded. Firefighters worked with police officers to transfer the money out of the truck and secure the scene. The driver blamed the wet road surface and the dog for causing the crash.

Robber targets phone gamer

A woman in Ganzhou was so absorbed with playing a mobile phone game that she did not realize she was about to be robbed. The victim, surnamed Zou, said she only realized she had been followed home when she opened the door and felt a knife against her neck. The robber took her bag, mobile phone and 40 yuan ($5.80) in cash. A man surnamed Lan has been detained in connection with the case. He told police he committed the crime to pay off debts he accrued building a house in his hometown.

Student tries to run away from home

A primary school pupil in Yushan county attempted to run away from home after being scolded by his parents for not finishing his homework. The boy, nicknamed Xiao Ming, was stopped by police at a toll booth while trying to ride his bicycle to a friend's house in Quzhou on Feb 10. He told officers he had ran away because he had not finished his homework assignment for the winter vacation. The sixth grader was transported back to Yushan by the Quzhou police and returned to his father, who had reported him missing.

Drinking alcohol for six decades

A 92-year-old woman in Guangyuan has been dubbed the "Goddess of Spirits" because of the prodigious quantities of alcohol she is able to consume. The woman, surnamed Wang, drinks almost half a liter of spirits every day without any apparent ill effects. A local doctor gave Wang a checkup recently and confirmed that she was still in good health. She began drinking at age 30 and has eight children.

Fasting driver faints behind wheel

A man who had starved himself for five days straight in a bid to lose weight passed out and crashed his luxury car in Chengdu. Chen You had to be carried out of his car after colliding with a parked car on the city's Guanghua road on the afternoon of Feb 9. He said he had become faint and blacked out. Chen was starving himself because he felt he had overeaten over the Spring Festival holiday.

Grandmother told to return money

A court has upheld a ruling ordering a 78-year-old woman to return the Lunar New Year "lucky money" she withdrew from her grandson's bank account. The 11-year-old boy brought his grandmother, surnamed Shi, to court in July 2014 for taking 45,000 yuan ($6,500) out of his account. The court ruled in his favor at the first trial, but Shi did not return the money.
