Marshall McLuhan, a Canadian professor who helped to develop media theory, wrote, "People don't actually read newspapers. They step into them every morning like a hot bath." Don't climb out of the bath until you finish the bridge column! Also, if you think your paper has reprinted yesterday's by mistake, hold thy emails.
Aesop, in "The Milkmaid and Her Pail", wrote that well-known line: Do not count your chickens before they are hatched. In bridge, though, you can count some winners before they have been added to your batch. In fact, you should always start, before playing to trick one, by counting winners and losers. It would also be a good plan to assume the worst possible distribution of the defenders' cards.

What is your most memorable bridge deal? A grand slam? Your first squeeze? The deal that cemented a victory? It will usually be something at a high level and dramatic.
