HK Chief Executive to address Legislative Council

HONG KONG - The Hong Kong Legislative Council (LegCo) Secretariat announced Monday that the LegCo will hold a meeting on October 17 when the chief executive will address the council.

During the meeting, Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying will elaborate on his concept of governance, review progress made in the first three months of the Fourth Term Government, and outline his policy direction and work priorities in 2013.

LegCo members will debate motions on the legislating for the regulation of working hours, follow-up work relating to the October 1 maritime disaster, and the curriculum guide of Moral and National Education subject.

In addition, members will also ask the Administration 20 questions on various policy areas, six of which require oral replies.

The LegCo is the law-making body of Hong Kong. The fifth LegCo election started from September, 2012, with 35 elected by geographical constituencies and 35 elected by functional and occupation-based constituencies.

According to the Hong Kong Basic Law, the term of office of the fifth LegCo members will expire on September 30, 2016.
