Shaanxi province in Northwest China plans to control the number of tourists visiting its mountain scenic zone following disorder that ended in two tourists being stabbed during recent national holidays.

Experts will be consulted over the maximum safe capacity of scenic spots, according to Zhao Zhengyong, governor of the province.

"Safety and the delight of the tourists is the most important thing," he said.

His announcement comes after 39,000 tourists flocked to Huashan Mountain, in the scenic zone, during China's recent national holidays, causing overcrowding and resulting in the stabbing of a tourist couple from Inner Mongolia.
