A man set himself on fire at a school in Hunan province on Monday, following a dispute with a teacher over enrolling his son at the school for the new semester.

Liu Junsen, father of a fifth-grade student at a primary school in Yongxing county, immolated himself with gasoline four days after the school refused to enroll his son in the new semester. The unidentified student failed to finish all the summer homework, leading to disputes over registration between his father and the head teacher.

After Liu spoke with the school's vice-president for academic affairs, the head teacher agreed to register Liu's son for a new term. But midway through the registration formalities Liu Junsen exclaimed: "I do not want my children to register. He has other schools to go to".

Liu then went to the second floor of the school building, poured gasoline over his body and set himself on fire. Teachers rescued Liu, who was rushed to a country hospital.

According to the publicity department of Yongxing county, the incident is under investigation and the victim's condition is not life-threatening.
