Robbers blasted open the tomb of a famous Chinese revolutionary's husband, scattering his remains around the tomb in Zhaotan village, Xiangtan, Hunan province, media reports said on Sept 4.

Artifacts and personal belongings of Wang Tingjun, husband of Qiu Jin, were destroyed.

A villager reported the robbery on Sept 4.

It is estimated that the robbery occurred on the evening of Aug 26. The local police are investigating the case.

At the age of 27, Qiu married Wang. She was executed in 1907 after a failed uprising against the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Wang died in 1909 and was buried with some of Qiu's personal belongings.

Local villagers said that robbers tried to raid the tomb in 1991 but failed after villagers stopped them.
