BEIJING - Southeast Motor, based in East China's Fujian province, will recall 2,470 V3-model vehicles to fix defective fuel pipes that could cause oil leaks, China's consumer quality watchdog said Monday.

The recall, which starts Monday, will affect vehicles manufactured between March 31 and April 25, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in a statement on its website.

The statement cited a problem with the rubber elasticity of the vehicles' fuel pipes, adding that the issue may result in oil leaks in extreme situations.

The recall followed a survey conducted by the administration to check and evaluate the V3 after several customers filed complaints regarding their fuel pipes. Experts on the survey team believe the defect could result in fires, according to the statement.

The auto company will offer free checkups for the vehicles and replace the fuel pipes if necessary, the statement said.
