An 18-year-old man who was charged with fabricating terrorist information was sentenced to one year and two months in jail on July 30 over a bomb hoax at Shanghai's Pudong International Airport.

According to Pudong New Area People's Court, the man, surnamed Pu, called the airport hotline on the night of April 28, claiming he had placed a bomb on flight CA406 from Shanghai to Chengdu. He demanded that airport authorities deposit 1 million yuan ($157,000) in his bank account.

The plane was searched and the flight was delayed for five hours until a false alarm was declared. Pu later admitted he had called the airport hotline twice using the Internet and had lied about the existence of a terrorist bomb.
