BEIJING - Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon met on Thursday on China-Africa cooperation, the role of UN and the situation in Syria.
Dai stressed the role of the UN in maintaining world peace and security under the current international situation, saying the UN's role in world affairs should be further strengthened.
He said all countries should continue to abide by the rules and principles of the UN Charter, as well as basic norms of the international relations such as non-interference into other countries' domestic affairs when handling global affairs and regional issues.
Ban is in China for a visit, in which he also attended the opening ceremony of the Fifth Ministerial Meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) on Thursday morning.
During his stay in Beijing, Ban also met with Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping.
