China on July 12 urged Manila not to cause trouble over Huangyan Island.

Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi made the remarks when responding to the Huangyan Island incident at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Regional Forum Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Huangyan Island has always been part of the Chinese territory and is not a disputed island, he said.

"It is very clear how the incident came about," he added.

Chinese people were shocked after the Philippines sent a vessel to attack Chinese fishermen on China's territory, Yang said.

What the Philippines did caused wide concerns and strong indignation among Chinese people, he said. China urges the Philippines to face the facts squarely and to not cause trouble, he added.
