About 202 batches of food and seven batches of cosmetic products imported in April were substandard and refused entry into the domestic market, China's top quality watchdog said on May 29.

The problematic food, imported from 24 countries and regions, included grain products, biscuits and candies, said the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

"They failed to meet the national standards for food addictives, safety and bacteria," said Liu Hongsheng, an official from the administration.

The seven batches of disqualified cosmetic products, imported from three countries and regions, were rejected due to poor quality and because they contain forbidden ingredients.

"These goods have been returned and some of them destroyed," Liu said.
