Desert tourism in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has helped the development of the local economy, tour organizers said on Saturday.

Zheng Haijun, deputy-manager of the Seven-Star Lake Desert Ecological Tourist Zone, made the statement at a press conference, held by Elion Resources Group and Hangjinqi Seven-Star Lake Ecological Desert Tourism Co Ltd and supported by the Speakers Group in Beijing.

The tourist zone in the Kubuqi Desert, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, features its sand resources and lakes, with construction invested by Elion Group.

The zone, covering an area of 8.89 square kilometers, is named "seven-star" for its seven lakes in the form of the Big Dipper.
