Travelers can enjoy discounts on two high-speed rail lines from May 18, Shanghai railway authorities said.
Business-class tickets for high-speed trains on the Shanghai-Nanjing and Shanghai-Hangzhou rail lines will be given a discount of 30 percent between May 18 and June 20.
Tickets for premium seats on the two lines will enjoy a 10 percent discount.
For example, a business-class ticket from Shanghai to Nanjing, currently priced at 438 yuan ($70), will be reduced to 307 yuan. A premium seat on the same route costing 263 yuan will be cut to 237 yuan.
Business-class and premium seats account for 2 percent of a train's total capacity.
Shanghai railway bureau said that the sales policy involves 55 trains running on the Shanghai-Nanjing line and 61 trains on the Shanghai-Hangzhou line.
But some of the tickets can only be sold at a discount when passengers buy them seven to 12 days ahead of their departure date.
The bureau said the special price policy is subject to changes in the future, which will be decided by market demand.
