BEIJING - China urged Tuesday relevant parties to remain "calm and restrained" to avoid damaging ease of tension on the Korean Peninsula and regional peace and stability.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Liu Weimin made the comment at a regular press briefing while commenting on a notice issued by a special mission team of the Supreme Command of the Korean People's Army (KPA) of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Monday.

In the notice, the KPA threatened to launch "special operations" against the government of the Republic of Korea (ROK) and conservative media.

Liu said China has taken note of the new development of the situation on the peninsula and is greatly concerned about it. "Maintaining peace and stability on the peninsula accords with the interests of all parties, including the DPRK and ROK.

"China urges relevant parties to remain calm and restrained, rather than (take actions that might) deteriorate the situation on the Korean Peninsula or harm the peace and stability of the region," Liu said.
