The Great Wall witnessed peak time during holiday

As one of the hottest and most-visited scenic spots in Beijing, the Great Wall seemed to be overloaded with the huge number of tourists during the Golden Week holiday, as a photo taken by a micro-blogger showed. The photo gave that impression because of the angle of the shot.

In fact the tourists were relatively scattered, an official from the Badaling Great Wall office said in response to public questions. On Oct 3, the daily visitors to Badaling Great Wall reached 81,000, an increase of 12,000 from the day before. According to the official, the historical peak for day visitors is about 100,000, when the Olympics were held in Beijing in 2008.

On that occasion no accidents occurred despite the big crowd. The general public need not worry about overcrowding at the moment, the official said, telling Beijing Times newspaper that they have not yet figured out the theoretical tourist capacity of the famous place of interest.

FEIRAN_FEIRAN: The family-planning policy is quite wise.

XIAOHONGMAOONFRIDAY: That no accidents have happened doesn't erase the possibility of accidents happening in the future.

XZJUHUAXIANG: When tourists get there, what do they appreciate actually? The great wall of people or the tourist attraction itself?

ZHOUXINQI: I don't think it's a matter of the angle of the photo because I believe the result would have been the same from all angles.

AIXINGONGGONG: The happiness index of visitors to the Great Wall plunged significantly. The management department of this scenic spot continued selling tickets simply to make as much money as possible.

CHUNPINPOEM: I really admire ancient people's wisdom because, unlike the overpass in Harbin, which collapsed with the authority blaming the incident on an overloaded truck, the wall has stood the test of time.

DDLCN: No matter from which angle the photo was taken, it's definitely not a pleasure to travel in such a huge crowd of people. So we'd better go sightseeing at times other than official holidays.

LAODONGSHIGEMEITIRENER: If an accident did happen, the result would be horrible because there would be a large number of casualties.
