Passenger cars to get toll-free for Spring Festival

The Ministry of Transport announced on Friday that the country's highways will be toll-free for passenger cars from midnight on Feb 9 to midnight on Feb 15 when most Chinese will go home for the Spring Festival before returning to work.

Passenger cars with seven seats or less and motorcycles will get a free pass through toll roads, bridges and tunnels during the Spring Festival holiday.

The upcoming Spring Festival is the most important traditional Chinese festival for family reunions and falls on Feb 10 this year. It's the second time tolls have been dropped. The first was during last year's National Day holiday.

Jinshuangxi: Why not stop collecting tolls earlier? You know that the traffic peak occurs a few days before the Spring Festival Eve.

Laoshenlaoshen: If the cars still have to stop to get a free pass, instead of passing the toll stations directly, the roads would be as congested as they were during the last National Day holiday.

My 1997: the latest news from the Ministry of Transport: Welcome to the free large-scale parking lot during the Spring Festival.

Yinwenzheng: Isn't it that the nation is advocating energy conservation? The government should exempt the toll fees for buses rather than small cars. It is not surprising that the highway will be congested with this incentive measure for automobiles.
