Giant panda dies in hospital

An injured panda, rescued and sent for treatment on Nov 17, died in a hospital in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan province, on Tuesday, thepaper.cn reported.

Ping Ping, the 3-year-old panda originally suspected of being attacked by a group of martens, was in fact found to have been cut after falling from a tree. The panda had a 4-cm-long wound on its stomach.

Ping Ping was found injured, with intestines exposed, in a cave near a patrol station in the Tangjiahe Natural Reserve in Sichuan Province. It is reported the panda was out of danger after a surgery in hospital on Nov 20, but its condition later proved fatal.
