Sichuan police search for escaped death row inmate

Sichuan police are offering 20,000 yuan ($3,226) to whoever can provide tips about a suspect who was sentenced to death and escaped from a hospital during a medical checkup, in Xichang city, Sichuan province on Monday morning, said the Xichang Public Security Bureau.

The escapee, who is 35 and of the Yi ethnic group, was receiving treatment at Xichang Liping Hospital when he ran away. Local police chased after him but failed to catch him, and are sparing no effort to track him down.

The man was arrested for trafficking drugs on June 12, 2013. He later received a death sentence and has since been in custody at Liangshan prefecture in Sichuan.

The warrant notice says the escapee is around 1.71 meters tall, thin, and wears a white T-shirt and sports pants when he escaped.
