Peking University wins suit against former professor

A former professor at Peking University who posted online more than 120 times, alleging corruption and immorality by university officials, was ordered on Wednesday to delete all such posts and apologize.

Zou Hengfu, who worked as a professor of economics at Peking University, first posted online on Aug 21, 2012, that some deans and department heads at the university raped waitresses at a campus restaurant and that there were many immoral people in the university.

In the following days, he posted more than 120 additional pieces of information on what he claimed was corruption and misbehavior involving professors and officials from Peking University, which became a hot topic online.

Jiang Langlang, spokesperson for the university, denied all the charges the first time Zou posted, and said Zou was dismissed from the university because he failed to give lessons as required for a long period.

Peking University and the campus restaurant sued Zou for libel in January 2014. At the first trial, Zou refused to give any proof to support his online allegations, according to a report from People's Daily on Wednesday.

Later on Wednesday, the People's Court in Haidian district, Beijing, ruled that Zou must delete all his posts about Peking University and the restaurant.

Zou was also ordered to apologize to both on his official weibo account.
