Foreign-oriented clothing markets in Beijing's Chaoyang set for relocation

The garment wholesale cluster in Beijing's embassy district in Chaoyang has joined the line for relocation, the Economic Information Daily reports.

Chaoyang district will move 35 clothing markets, including Yabao and Tianya markets, by the end of this year. Another 245 wholesale markets are set for relocation by 2016.

Earlier, garment wholesale markets in Beijing Zoo and Dahongmen announced relocation plans to shift some of the stress away from Beijing to its less developed neighbors.

The cluster in the embassy district is the country's largest foreign-oriented clothing wholesale market.

Cheng Lianyuan, Chaoyang's Party committee secretary, said the district wants to focus on the service, high-tech and cultural industries, and move some non-core functions out, including garment wholesaling.

Adjacent Hebei province and Tianjin city are interested in taking them over.

Yongqing district of Hebei's Langfang city, which is close to Beijing, is in talks with markets at Beijing Zoo, Dahongmen and Yabao to take advantage of its location and transportation.

Chaoyang's industry relocation plan marks a major progress in Beijing's industry transfer, which is an important part of the capital circle's economic integration project.
