A man in Chongqing municipality jumped into a river in a suicide attempt, but he only received minor injuries because the water was shallow, cqnews.net reported on Thursday.

Firefighters in the city's Nanchuan district received a report on March 24 saying a man was trapped in a river, so they went to rescue him. The 42-year-old man, a resident of the district, told the firefighters that his surname was Xia and that he wanted to drown because he faced serious difficulties in his work and marriage.

However, because the water was so shallow, he merely injured his waist but could not move in the water. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
