The day you became financially independent

It was never a problem in our family. We were not wealthy; but we lacked no essentials. Big spending on luxuries was not a family habit. So, though I started earning small money at small summer jobs at about 12, this was just "pocket money" for little expenses like candy and movies. I never thought money or material goods were very important until I finished medical school. Even then, my tastes were very moderate. There is a tradition in our family to share money. The older (and wealthier) members always give money to the "youngsters" to help them buy houses. We all invest and save money to give to our children and nephews as we get older. We've never been poor. We are careful with money; but not very materialistic.
