Thermal Power Construction

Updated: 2013-06-25

POWERCHINA has 23 power engineering companies, most of them with more than 50 years of history in power plant construction and having rich experiences in building thermal power plants, power transmission and distribution projects, and installing the units of gas turbine, wind power, solar energy, nuclear power,. By the end of 2012, POWERCHINA had completed the installation of 2,588 thermal power units, with a total installed capacity of 399 GW, or 45.9 percent of the total power installed capacity in China, with grid-connected wind power of 6,260 MW, or 10.3 percent of the nation’s total. These companies have won 60 Luban prizes, 16 gold medals for high-quality projects, and 30 silver medals.

Since the 1980s, by following a "go global" strategy, 17 companies have undertaken thermal power projects, electricity transmission and distribution projects, and new energy projects in 34 countries covering Asia, Africa, Europe and South America, with various contract modes, including EPC, managing contractor, subcontracting, and project management. The companies have put 289 units into operation, with an installed capacity of 47,980 MW, or 80 percent of all overseas thermal power projects built by Chinese companies. It is worth noting that two of these companies are on the Top 225 International Contractors list of the American engineering news record (ENR).

POWERCHINA possesses advanced machinery for installing boilers and generating units of thermal power plants and has accumulated rich experiences in construction and installation.
