An ink painting show featuring about 40 works by teachers from different colleges opened on Tuesday in Beijing's 798 Art Zone to celebrate Teacher's Day.

On display are ink paintings from 11 teachers of the painting style at fine arts colleges including the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts and Communication University of China.

"They have two roles: painter and teacher. On one hand they spread their knowledge of Chinese ink painting to their students, and on the other, they must do research to lead the direction of the future of the art form," said the exhibition's curator Xu Hang, editor-in-chief of Art Life magazine.

Xu says some teachers weren't able to make it to the show to display their works because they are with their students sketching in Guizhou and Henan provinces.

Han Chao, an assistant professor with Beijing Forestry University, came to the opening late because he had just finished class.

The show at the Jingfeng Art Museum in Beijing's 798 Art Zone will last until Sept 17.
