The Manhattan Symphony Orchestra of New York will perform classic waltzes, American folk songs, tango dances and Chinese folk songs for its Christmas concert. The concert is led by the orchestra's music director Gregory Singer, son of conductor Jacques Singer.

Versatile Gregory has also played parts in Broadway shows such as The Women of the Year, The Human Comedy and Phantom of the Opera.

Classic opera

Strokes of reality

What's on

Beijing artist Lu Shun depicts animals with a touch of mystery in his oil paintings. His first solo show is running at Today Art Museum.

"The animals in my works all have their own unique character. Their existential problems are very similar to those faced by human beings," says the filmmaker-turned oil painter.

Realistic touch

South Korean artist Lee Jung-woong is known for his series of paintings depicting the brush. In his works, paintbrushes are depicted in such a realistic way that viewers might think they can pick them up from the paper. The splash of ink and the texture of the soft paper are also intensely realistic. Born in 1963, Lee has won domestic and international awards.

When pictures speak

What's on

More than 80 oil paintings, etchings, sketches and photos by five Chinese and Yemeni artists are on show under the title Dialogue in Paintings. The works by the three Chinese participants were painted during their week-long stay in Sana'a, capital of Yemen, this May. Their works reflect vivid scenes of life in its old city and several rich historical sites. While Yemeni artist Ameen Abdulmahmod Nasher paints scenes from his native land, his fellow Abdulhakim Qasem Alakil's creations explore the landscape and cultures of towns in Southern China, which he visited in June.
