China Philharmonic performs Bruckner

The China Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Anton Bruckner's Symphony No 8 in C Minor under the baton of Lan Shui (pictured below), music director of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

It will be the second Bruckner symphony performed by the China Philharmonic Orchestra during its 2011-12 season, after the Symphony No 9 in D Minor on March 10.

"It's exciting to see the China Philharmonic performing two of the most difficult symphonies by Bruckner in one season," music critic Liu Xuefeng says.

Lasting about 80 minutes, Symphony No 8 in C Minor is Bruckner's longest work.

Born in China, Shui is the recipient of several international awards, including kudos from New York Tcherepnin Society, the 37th Besancon Conductors Competition in France and the Cultural Medallion in 2009, in recognition of his work for the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

7:30 pm June 30. Forbidden City Concert Hall, inside Zhongshan Park, Beijing. 010-6559-8285, 6559-8306.
