Philip Seymour Hoffman developing series at HBO

LOS ANGELES  – Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman is developing a drama series for cable network HBO.

"Upstate," from the actor's Copper's Town Productions and Entertainment One, centers on Roy Perkins, who gets laid-off and then relocates his family to rural America to take a job as a correctional officer in a new privately run for-profit prison.

"As the town and his family prosper, Roy encounters conflict and danger inside and outside the prison walls," according to the logline.

Brett C. Leonard and Bob Glaudini wrote the script and will executive produce with Hoffman, Emily Ziff and eOne's Michael Rosenberg, who is also an executive producer on HBO's other downsized drama "Hung."

Hoffman starred in the HBO TV movie "Empire Falls." The actor previously won an Oscar for playing the title role in feature film "Capote."
