LOS ANGELES  - CBS Films has lined up new (haunted) digs in eastern Europe for the director of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," the first film in the Swedish crime series.

Danish filmmaker Niels Arden Oplev will take the helm of "The Keep," a project based on Jennifer Egan's spooky 2006 best-seller. The studio is in final negotiations to acquire an adaptation written by "The Skeleton Key" scribe Ehren Kruger.

Described by one observer as "The Ring" meets "Inception," "The Keep" is a story within a story about two cousins with a shared secret who reunite to renovate a legendary haunted medieval castle that turns dreams and nightmares into reality.

Oplev also has co-written and directed the dramas "Worlds Apart" and "We Shall Overcome." "Dragon Tattoo," based on the Stieg Larsson novel, grossed more than $100 million overseas.

Kruger originally adapted "The Keep" in 2006 after its publication by Knopf that August, but the project went through several producers before ending up at CBS Films.
