`Angels & Demons,' `Star Trek' dominate box office

NEW YORK – Ticket sales at the box office was brisk over the weekend, as moviegoers turned out for the opening of "Angels & Demons," which wrestled top film honors from "Star Trek."

"Angels & Demons," which stars Tom Hanks in his "The Da Vinci Code" role, earned $46.2 million in its first weekend of release, according to final studio numbers Monday.

Last week's no. 1 film, "Star Trek," held strong with $43 million, bringing its two-week total to $147.6 million.

Those results bode well for the blockbusters lined up through the summer like dominos, including the two big Memorial Day weekend releases: "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" and "Terminator Salvation."
