Madonna turns 50 as top female artist

U.S. pop diva Madonna turned 50 on Saturday with unparalleled achievements to her name.

Guinness records show that to date, the star has sold nearly 120 million albums and 40 million singles worldwide, more than any other female solo artist in history.

Madonna has enjoyed unequaled success among female artists worldwide since her success with such 1980s hits as "Like a Virgin" and "Like a Prayer", the Celebrity News Service said.

The singer will start her world tour "Sticky & Sweet" in Wales a week after her birthday.
