"300" number up with five MTV noms

LOS ANGELES - The violent epic "300" leads the pack of nominees for the MTV Movie Awards with five mentions, followed by "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" with four nominations.

Both films will vie for best movie honors with "Blades of Glory," "Borat" and "Little Miss Sunshine."

The 16th annual awards show, hosted by Sarah Silverman, will air live for the first time, at 8 p.m. EST on June 3 from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles.

"300" also received nominations for stars Gerard Butler (best performance), Lena Headey (breakthrough performance) and Rodrigo Santoro (best villain) and also was cited for best fight (Butler vs. "the Uber Immortal").

The other mentions for "Pirates" came in the categories for best performance for Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley, and best villain for Bill Nighy.

Also competing for the best performance "golden popcorn" award are Jennifer Hudson and Beyonce Knowles for "Dreamgirls" and Will Smith for "The Pursuit of Happyness."

Smith's son, Jaden, also has been nominated for "Happyness" in the breakthrough performance category along with Headey, Emily Blunt ("The Devil Wears Prada") Abigail Breslin ("Little Miss Sunshine"), Columbus Short ("Stomp the Yard") and Justin Timberlake ("Alpha Dog").

Blunt also earned a nomination in the comedic performance category, where she will vie with Sacha Baron Cohen for "Borat," Will Ferrell for "Blades of Glory," Adam Sandler for "Click" and Ben Stiller for "Night at the Museum."

Rounding out the best villain nominees are Tobin Bell of "Saw III," Jack Nicholson of "The Departed" and Meryl Streep of "Prada."
