Chau and Liu said it would be impossible for them to sit on the jury. Liu did receive an invitation from Hunan Satellite TV, organizer of the competition, but his schedule makes it a mission impossible for him.
Chau's agent, Mr. Yang, said Chau had turned down the invitation because of a painful experience almost 20 years ago when Chau won a singing contest. "This kind of competition is cruel. Chau felt he couldn' harden his heart to judge who would be booted out," Yang was quoted as saying.
Zheng Jun was not available for comment but his agent said Zheng would not be one of the judges.
Zhang Yadong denied receiving an invitation but said that even if asked, his schedule was too busy.
Chang, who had served on the jury last year, was the only one who anticipated the organizer's invitation and showed great interest in the position. "Of course I would go (if invited). I enjoyed the judging process last year. But the World Cup is coming. It's hard to decide," Chang was quoted as saying.
The promotion director of Hunan Satellite TV clarified Wednesday that the jury has not yet been finalized.
