The 2008 China H1 Hot Air Balloon Challenge Games will be held from April 24 to 30 in Haikou, Hainan province, together with the second Hot Air Balloon Festival.
Over 400 years ago, thousands were drifted from the south to build a section of the Great Wall in the north, including today's Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province. They then stayed to guard the Wall and their families moved to join them.

Most friends remember Fou Lei as a tall, lanky and serious man. Raised by a strict mother after his father died when he was just 4, the scholar rarely smiled and led a life defined by discipline. He always placed his ashtray and a French-Chinese dictionary on the right side of his desk, with an inkslab and the books he was translating on the left.
The usually quiet and spacious hall of the National Library of China in Beijing is full of people. Fou Min, son of renowned translator Fou Lei (1908-66), greets colleagues, classmates, friends and other honored guests to the exhibition marking his father's 100th birthday.
