Translator's life
April 7, 1908 Fou Lei was born in Nanhui county, Shanghai, with the name Fu Nu'an.

Dec 1927 Fou leaves Shanghai to study in France and travels extensively in Europe.
1931 Fou comes home to teach art history at Shanghai Arts School. His lectures were published in 1934 as Lectures on 20 Famous Western Paintings, an important textbook for art schools.
1932 Fou marries his cousin Zhu Meifu. Fou Ts'ong and Fou Min were born in 1934 and 1937.
Dec 1949 Fou settles down at No. 5, Alley 284, Jiangsu St, Shanghai, where he translated works by Romain Rolland, Honor de Balzac, Voltaire, Prosper Mrime, Hippolyte Adolphe Taine, Bertrand Russell and other Western authors.
Aug 1953 Fou Ts'ong wins the 3rd award at the 4th World Youth and Students Peace & Friendship Art Festival in Budapest.
Mar 1954 Fou Ts'ong wins the 3rd award and the Mazuka Award at the 5th Frederic Chopin International Piano Competition.
1957 Fou Lei is invited to Beijing for a meeting chaired by Mao Zedong on art circle issues.
1958 Fou Lei is branded a "Rightist" in April. Fou Ts'ong left Warsaw for London in December.
Sep 3, 1966 Fou Lei and his wife commit suicide after "Red Guards" ravaged their home.
April 26, 1979 Fou Ts'ong and Fou Min attend the memorial meeting for their parents in Shanghai.
