China hopes the ongoing G20 summit will increase the representation and discourse power of developing countries in global economic governance, said President Hu Jintao.

Hu made the remarks while meeting Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi in the Mexican resort of Los Cabos on the sidelines of the G20 summit scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.

Hu said the current G20 should take the concerns of the unbalanced development of the North and the South, and recognize the contribution made by developing countries to the world economy together with their reasonable demands.

Meles said Ethiopia and Africa are ready to strengthen cooperation with China on issues including global economic development and climate change to maintain the common interests of developing countries.

Meles is in Los Cabos as Mexico, the host of the summit, invited Ethiopia and some other non-G20 members to attend the meeting.

Hu is also expected to meet leaders from Germany, France and the US during the next two days alongside the summit.
