Hotels in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, will no longer provide free slippers, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush or related supplies, Nanfang Daily reported.
According to a guideline from the city government, hotels in the provincial capital will no longer provide free disposable supplies to reduce daily wastage.
The guideline, which encourages the development of a recycling economy in the southern metropolis, was passed by the routine work conference of the Guangzhou city government on Monday.
Authorities in Guangzhou have also been urged to expand a garbage-sorting program, according to the city's mayor, Chen Jianhua.
Just over 400 of the 1,400 communities in the city started to adopt the program, in which garbage is sorted at fixed times and locations, in April.
The city produces more than 18,000 tons of rubbish a day.
