Blast in NE China tourist spot kills seven

SHENYANG -- Seven people were killed in an explosion in northeast China's Liaoning province, local authorities said.

The blast occurred at 2 pm on Monday in the tourist zone of the Chinese Civil War-era Liaoshen Campaign, in Fushun city as two workers were making fireworks. The death toll included five other staff as well as the two workers, according to the city's publicity office.

The Liaoning-Shenyang Campaign was one of the three major campaigns of the Civil War. Two reenactment shows daily use more than 2,000 bullets and 600 mock shells.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is under way.
