Man with large esophageal tumor released

A man who had a large tumor on his esophagus was discharged from hospital on Monday after a monthlong treatment in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

The man surnamed Luo, 53, who been a heavy drinker of alcohol and coffee for 25 years, was found to have tumor 18.3 centimeters long when he suffered from a hoarse voice at the beginning of March.

Luo had to have immediate surgery conducted to remove the tumor, which doctors said was one of the longest in the world to their knowledge.

Luo said he used to drink more than half a liter of alcohol and about one liter of coffee a day.
