Zheng Bijian, former vice president of the Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, has called for building "communities of interests" to further promote China's growth in the context of globalization.

China's development faces a number of serious challenges in the next 10 years, such as resources and environment constraints on economic growth and lagging social governance, Zheng said at the 5th World Forum on China Studies in Shanghai on Saturday.

To meet the challenges, China needs to adhere to the path of peaceful development and develop a convergence of interest with the rest of the world.

"Economic globalization increases the interdependence among countries to the extent that no country can develop without working with other countries." he said.

There will be more cooperation and competition as international relations are being significantly realigned to deal with such things as the financial crisis.

China must handle its relationship with all countries and regions and expand a convergence of interest with all stakeholders in all dimensions.
