Many flowers and trees have been damaged by freezing temperatures in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province, this winter.

In an area of greenery in Rixin Zhonglu Street, located in downtown Kunming, all of the flowers had died and would be removed, Yunnan Info Daily reported on Thursday.

The same situation was found in many other main streets of Kunming, the report said.

Kunming is known as the "City of Eternal Spring" for its spring-like weather and usually has blossoms and lush vegetation year round.

However, the city had a cold winter this year.

From Dec 15 to Dec 16, Kunming experienced snow, which affected traffic in the city.

Between Dec 16 and Dec 18, the temperature dropped as low as -3 C.

On Thursday, the lowest temperature was 3 C.

The city's landscape and forestry bureau said it planned to remove the dead plants and will take measures to protect other plants, the report said.
