Ferrero Group, one of the world's leading confectionery manufacturers, pledged to promote moderate diets and a healthy lifestyle among the youth in its fourth corporate social responsibility report released in Shanghai on Thursday.

The group invested more than $10.59 million in promoting sport among the youth in the last fiscal year, including family marathons and tennis classes, it said.

That project, which involved more than 12 million children across 20 countries, encouraged children to exercise and through this achieve better all-round development, according to the report.

More than 80 percent of Ferrero products are presented in individual portions of less than 45 grams in order to promote a moderate diet, it said.

Wang Peiyu, a professor of Social Medicine and Health Education Department of Beijing University, said that obesity has become a major problem and tackling over-eating is the first principal to establish a healthy diet.

The group established three social enterprises in India, South Africa and Cameroon to improve the work, education and healthcare for children and families in poorer areas.

Since 2010, Ferrero Group has published its corporate social responsibility report in different languages annually. This is the second report that the group launched in China.
