A white-collar worker has become a "queen of peacocks" after she left her job to return to her hometown to raise the birds, Hunan Daily reported.

Lu Juanling who used to have a yearly salary of 200,000 yuan ($32,900) resigned and started the peacock farm in her hometown in Changsha, Hunan province, in 2008.

Lu said March is the best time to enjoy peacocks as the peacocks have entered their heat period to fan out their tails in splash of colors to woo opposite genders.

After years of hard work and experiencing a difficult period, Lu now raises more than 300 peacocks and pheasants on her 1.33-hectare farm.

“I have sold more than 20,000 peacock and pheasant eggs since the beginning of this year,” Lu told local media.

A peacock egg sells at 120 yuan, she added.

Lu said she has canceled many orders because she does not have enough peacock eggs to sell.

She said she is planning to open restaurants that will serve the eggs in the following years.
