One person has been confirmed dead after a series of explosions at a private liquefied gas station in Huanghua, Hebei province, on Wednesday morning that forced the evacuation of hundreds of residents.

A tanker remained ablaze on Thursday.

According to Jia Zhaode, deputy mayor of Huanghua who is leading the emergency team at the scene, a body, still to be identified pending DNA tests, was found on Wednesday night.

A fire, caused by the explosions, has been brought under control but a tanker containing about 2 tons of liquefied gas, was still burning.

The blaze was hampering emergency work and rescuers and searchers have to wait until the liquefied gas has completely burnt, Jia said.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated.

The liquefied gas station is located in the village of Fanjiabao in Huanghua. More than 400 residents in the village were evacuated.
