Suspects held over fake 'property' divorce papers

Police in Tianjin municipality detained four suspects who allegedly counterfeited divorce certificates for those who want to buy a property.

Under current regulations in many cities, people are not allowed to buy property if their families already have more than two apartments. Many couples choose to get divorced to qualify to buy a new property.

The police found 265 fraud stamps, 78 fake hukou (household registration) certificates and nearly 100 marriage and divorce certificates at a house in Xiqing district on Nov 26, the reported.

The police will report the case to the local housing authorities, the report said.
