China Science Publishing & Media Group will strengthen its long-term cooperation with Elsevier, a world-leading provider of science and health information that serves more than 30 million scientists.

Ron Mobed, CEO of Elsevier, said China will become the mostly heavily invested country in science and technology in the near future, thus creating the need to provide targeted services to Chinese scientists.

China Science Publishing & Media Group and Elsevier established a joint venture in 2007 and were mainly engaged in publishing books. In the new deal, the two signed agreements to expand cooperation, including providing periodic publication services in English on science, technology and medical science and evaluating domestic scientific journals in China.

“It’s high time that the professional standard of China’s journals escalated. I hope our joint venture company will become a platform for Chinese-English journals on science, technology and medical science to stand on the world stage,” said Peng Bin, vice-president of China Science Publishing & Media Group.

Elsevier publishes more than 2,000 journals every year, including Lancet and Cell.
