Wan Zengwei, who was director of the research group of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, stood trial in a Shanghai court on Friday on charges of accepting bribes amounting to nearly 6 million yuan ($980,000), the website of Xinmin Evening News reported.

Prosecutors said Wan had taken bribes since 1996 when he served as deputy director of the comprehensive planning land bureau of Pudong New Area. He told the court he had no objection to the prosecutor's accusation.

Wan was former Party chief and director of Shanghai Accumulation Fund Management Center and director of the Pudong Academy of Reform and Development in Shanghai.
