A 28-year-old man in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, will donate his hematopoietic stem cells to a leukemia patient in Singapore, Qianjiang Evening News reported.

In 2009, when Xu Peng graduated and became a medical staff member at a local community hospital, he donated blood and also registered to donate hematopoietic stem cells.

Earlier this year, Xu received a phone call from Zhejiang Red Cross telling him that his stem cell samples were considered a match for a patient in Singapore.

The probability of stem cell donors matching patients is quite low, so Xu soon decided to donate his cells for the patient.

So far, he has finished all prechecks and, if all goes according to plan, his hematopoietic stem cells will be collected later this week.

Xu is due to become a father next month. "All I am doing is to deliver positive energy," he said. "I think that's the best gift I can prepare for my child."
