Guangzhou considers new airports

The development and reform commission of Guangzhou, Guangdong province, is inviting tenders for preliminary studies on a second civilian airport in the city and a business airport in Nansha New Area.

The study will look at, among other things, necessity, feasibility and location, Nanfang Daily reported.

Passenger volume at Guangzhou's Baiyun International Airport topped 48.31 million last year.

The airport has seen an annual average increase of 12 percent between 2004 and 2012.

Cargo throughput stood at 1.25 million tons last year, growing by 9.6 percent every year, on average, between 2001 and 2012.
