BEIJING -- Temperatures will go up in most parts of southern China following recent heavy rain, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said Sunday.

The influence of tropical storm Jebi is expected to end on Monday, the center said, adding that most parts of Yunnan province and parts of west China will likely see heavy rain from Sunday to Monday night.

The national weather observatory is maintaining an orange alert for high temperature.

Temperatures are expected to climb as high as 40 degrees Celsius in parts of Hunan and Zhejiang provinces, as well as parts of the South Xinjiang Basin and Xinjiang's Turpan Basin, the NMC said.

The center also predicted that temperatures greater than 35 degrees Celsius will occur along the Yangtze and Huaihe rivers, regions south of the Yangtze River, most parts of Chongqing municipality and the Sichuan Basin and parts of Guizhou, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces and the Inner Mongolia autonomous region from Sunday to Tuesday.

The NMC advised people in these areas to take necessary measures to avoid heatstroke.

China uses a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe weather, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
