NANNING - Police in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region have broken up an armed cross-border drug gang, capturing 9 suspects and confiscating 109.3 kg of heroin, according to a police statement.

The case is the largest drug trafficking case seen in the region to date in terms of the amount of confiscated drugs, according to a Friday statement from the public security bureau of Nanning, the regional capital.

Police also seized 8.15 million yuan ($1.3 million) in cash from the gang members, who were apprehended between June 18 and 22.

Ten vehicles, two guns and 17 bullets were also seized by police.

The drug gang, which trafficked drugs from Vietnam to Guangxi, Guangdong province, Hong Kong and Macao, is believed to have supplied 60 percent of the heroin sold in the cities of Nanning, Guangzhou, Foshan and Shenzhen, according to the police.
